توی این پست میخوایم بریم سراغ یکی از پر سوال ترین موارد در زبان انگلیسی…. would
مهم ترین کاربردهاش رو براتون میگم و بعدش چندتا مثال میارم تا بهتر متوجه بشین.
هر کدوم از اون کاربردهای اصلی خودش شامل چند مورد میشه.
1-We use would to make hypotheses:برای فرضیه ساختن
when we imagine a situation:وقتی شرایطی رو تصور می کنیم
It would be very expensive to stay in a hotel.
I would give you a lift, but my wife has the car today.
in conditionals:در جملات شرطی
I would give her a call if I could find her number.
If I had the money, I’d buy a new car.
You would lose weight if you took more exercise.
If he got a new job, he would probably make more money.
What if he lost his job? What would happen then?
2-Expressions with would اصطلاحات
We use:
would you…, would you mind (not) -ing for requests: برای درخواست ها
Would you carry this for me, please?
Would you mind carrying this?
Would you mind not telling him until tomorrow?
would you like …, would you like to … for offers and invitations:برای پیشنهادات و دعوت ها
Would you like another drink?
Would you like to come round tomorrow?
I would like …, I’d like … (you)(to) … to say what we want or what we want to do:به معنی خواستن و تمایل داشتن
I’d like that one, please.
I’d like to go home now.
I’d rather… (= I would rather) to say what we prefer:برای بیان ترجیحات
I’d rather have the new one, not the old one.
I don’t want another drink. I’d rather go home.
I would think, I would imagine, I’d guess to give an opinion when we are not sure or when we want to be polite:برای دادن نظر وقتی مطمئن نیستیم یا وقتی می خواهیم مودبانه صحبت کنیم
It’s very difficult, I would imagine.
I would think that’s the right answer.
3-would for the past برای گذشته
We often use would as a kind of past tense of will or going to:
Even as a boy, he knew that he would succeed in life.
I thought it would rain so I brought my umbrella.
Using would as a kind of past tense of will or going to is common in reported speech:در نقل قول ها
She said that she would buy some eggs. (“I will buy some eggs.”)
The candidate said that he wouldn’t increase taxes. (“I won’t increase taxes.”)
Why didn’t you bring your umbrella? I told you it would rain! (“It’s going to rain.”)
We often use would not to talk about past refusals:برای امتناع و رد کردن چیزی در گذشته
He wanted a divorce but his wife would not agree.
Yesterday morning, the car wouldn’t start.
We sometimes use would (rather like used to) when talking about habitual past behavior:در مورد عادات گذشته که قبلا در یک پست مفصل بهش پرداختیم
Every weekday my father would come home from work at 6pm and watch TV.
Every summer we’d go to the seaside.
Sometimes she’d phone me in the middle of the night.
We would always argue. We could never agree.
4-would for the future in pastآینده در گذشته
When talking about the past we can use would to express something that has not happened at the time we are talking about:
In London she met the man that she would one day marry.
He left 5 minutes late, unaware that the delay would save his life.
5-would for wishبرای “ای کاش ها“
I wish you would stay. (I really want you to stay. I hope you will stay.)
They don’t like me. I’m sure they wish I’d resign.
6-would for presumption or expectationبرای فرض و انتظارات
That would be Jo calling. I’ll answer it.
We saw a police helicopter overhead yesterday morning. | Really? They would have been looking for those bank robbers.
7-would for uncertaintyبرای بیان عدم قطعیت
He would seem to be getting better. (less certain than: He seems to be getting better.)
It would appear that I was wrong. (less certain than: It appears that I was wrong.)
8-would for derogatory commentبرای دادن کامنت های تحقیر کننده و با نیش و کنایه
They would say that, wouldn’t they?
John said he didn’t steal the money. | Well, he would, wouldn’t he?
